House Speaker Richard Corcoran has appointed Manny Diaz to represent Florida on the Education Commission of the States.

State Representative Manny Diaz announced that House Speaker Richard Corcoran has appointed him to the Education Commission of the States. The group’s mission is to work with policy leaders in each state to conduct extensive research on a wide spectrum of education issues. Diaz’s appointment is effective immediately and will run through November of 2018.

“The Education Commission of the States is highly respected for its commitment to high-quality research that actually makes a difference in students’ lives,” said Diaz. “The importance of making sure Florida offers the very best opportunities for an excellent education cannot be overstated, and I look forward to working with their team to find better ways for us to do that.”

The Commission was founded in 1967 as the operating arm of the Compact for Education, which was formed to improve and strengthen education policy at the state level as a counterbalance to the growing federal role in education. Its large team of policy analysts and experts partners with education policy leaders in all 50 states to address issues by sharing resources and expertise.

Since his election to the Florida House in 2012, Diaz has been a leader in education reform. He serves as Chair of the PreK-12 Appropriations Subcommittee and on the Education Committee.
